Ok, I am having a blast with the Garrett Ace 350, and learning the Ins and Outs about it, and finding a few Treasures( one persons junk is anothers treasure), and now I would like to add to my detector arsenal with a Water Detector. I have never searched in water as in my previous postings, I only had the D-Tex Search King, and it really did not like the water at all. The Ace 350 allows me to submerge the coil, but with the digging and the splashing, I do not want to get the electronics comprimised. I like the Garrett line from what I am reading and reviewing, but for the difference in price which is about $400 between the Sea Hunter and the Infinium, what really are the main differences if you are using them primarily for shallow hunting, meaning chest deep or shallow snorkelling.

If for gold prospecting or relic hunting in difficult ground.
I would choose the Infinium LS as it's ground balancing capability is required.

If for mainly ocean water hunting.
I would choose the Sea Hunter MK II as it has a no motion detection option. (easier to pinpoint with when hunting in a surf)

The Infinium has auto ground tracking ; The Sea Hunter does not have ground tracking.

The Infinium has normal PI discrimination plus duel tone target ID that is mainly for separating high conductivity metal from low conductivity metal : The Sea Hunter has normal PI discrimination and is single tone..

The Infinium is a Motion detector : The Sea Hunter is No Motion.

The Infinium is set up to operate in highly mineralogical ground and to ignore most hot rocks that are found in the gold fields. It is a gold detector that has the ability to be adjusted to operate very well on salt water beaches and for scuba work. This detector will function very well anywhere and in all ground conditions.

The Sea Hunter is set up for salt water beach and scuba operation and will be noisy on hot rocks and gold field heavy mineralogical. This is an excellent beach machine

The Infinium can be adjusted to reduce or cancel the effects of external electrical interference : The Sea Hunter can not.

These are the main differences between these two machines.

Thank-you very, very much, your information was excellent and will help in making my decision, I guess in a nut-shell the Infinium is a type of dual purpose machine for both Rocks(Gold), and the Surf, while the Sea Hunter is specifically that........for the Sea. I just didn't want to spend the extra money and find out that the difference between the 2 where just a few options, and later on I could have saved that and spent it on another machine for a different purpose.

Viracocha.....    Nice comparison of the 2 machines. Thanks for the info. Almost bought a Sea Hunter but was able to get a good deal on a Surfmaster Pro.

I checked out the Garrett AT Pro, and its almost the same as my Ace 350 visually, but its only good to 10ft, and with the display screen on it, I am concerned that seeing it would be a little difficult in the water, but I do like Garrett's way of setting up their identification of objects for on the screen. Also the price is about the same as the Sea Hunter, so that puts it into the "Maybe" category, and again thanks for everyone giving their opinion and choices, and if you have any more please let me know, as all of you that have one, used one, or know about them is always a great help.

Virgin ground is past 5' so if you want to get out there.. get the sea hunter.  You can e-bay one for 500 clams!

Dollar for dollar I feel... for myself that is... that the Sea Hunter is the better bargain.  I do allot of underwater detecting, and need the extra money for all the other equipment!

Your going to miss all the good stuff if you rely on Visual ID systems.    You can say good buy to the small gold and stuff. Shocked

Keep in mind you will do a fair bit of digging.. I have the uncanny ability to find half a pull tab at 130 feet!
