Hi All !!!  Quick question - does anyone on here own/use or owned/used in the past, a Garrett American S3 ?  I picked one up pretty cheap off of Evilbay.  Very lightweight detector !!!  I have two other Garrett's, an ADS Deepseeker and an ADS 7 (both at Garrett getting "fixed at the moment).  I printed the manual off some web-site, seems pretty straightforward, but if anyone can offer an opinion, I'd like to read it.  Thanks all !!!  Stay Alert-Stay Safe !!!

I had one years back.  It tuned easily and was a good coin/jewelry machine as I remember.  Limited in its discrimination settings but then I use a "reverse discrimination" concept anyway.  My version of this is a little different than what you may have heard about.  In most discrimination the idea is to dig only targets that are shown to be "good".  I dig every target that I can't prove to be trash.  I dig more trash but I don't think I miss much good stuff.  As you noted, it is light weight and can be a good backup or one to let friends use when they show an interest but don't want to plunk down money yet.  Enjoy.

John

Cool little machine!

I have one The Audio took a dive about a month ago.

Waiting for a Replacement Transistor from one of our fine forum members.

I used it all the time.

As Stated, Limited Discrimination but I don't use any anyways. Ha!

TR sections sorta SUCKS.

The VLF sections is another story!

I've found 14k gold ear rings backs down to 6" as a clean target.

I found a 1/8 gram nugget and it sang like a Banshee at 4 inches. Lodged in a bedrock crack.

Back in the Yonder Years, they were marketed as a lower end coin machine but Running at 15 Khz, they stand apart from the New Coin Machines .

The circuit is based on the Groundhog circuit with less controls.

It Rocks!   You can fix the Lame Discrim by replacing the Switch with a 10K pot.
