Anyone know how to really use this thing?  I bought it for the clear shallow water of the Florida coast where I live as well as to hit the dry sand and shoreline.  So far I have only had it on the dry sand beach.  The problem is that it picks up everything!  Every two feet it goes off, literally. It has a discrete setting, which I use, but still finds nails, tabs, etc. Anyone know the best settings or is it just the wrong detector for the beach??  Anyone know how well it does underwater? Thanks!

.............................DBADFD.................The Garrett SeaHunter is a Pulse Induction machine........................... except for maybe the White's TDI ................All Pulse Induction machines like iron especially nails and bobby pins................no matter where you set the discrimination control ............for this reason.......................I set mine on zero discrimination...................nails and bobby pins usually have a double blip but I dig them any way!!  Many times I have found rings after removing all of the nails..............JOE

I did not care for the Sea Hunter at all. But, I have several dive buddies who swear by that machine. Mine seemed to false every time the ground changed even a little bit. If I got it set so it did not do that, it was not sensitive to small targets. I sold it and went with a JW Fishers Pulse 8X for underwater use. I am much happier with that.

HH,
Rip

Hello Rip,

I've had the Pulse (X but think it doesn't not give much bang for the money. It still uses a poorly made board dating back to early 80s and atleats mine was rather poorly made.

In my humble oppinion the Aquapulse designed by Eric Foster remains the bist PI unit around.

Regards,

Christian

I agree that Eric's Aquapulse leaves the Pulse 8X way behind. It was not an option at the time. But if I were looking for a new machine for underwater use today, I would go with an Eric Foster design.

Many years ago, I built a PI system using a board that I got from Eric. It was one of the best detectors I have ever owned.

These days I build most of my detectors and almost all of the timing that I use is based on Eric's recommendations.

HH,
Rip

Hello Rip,

yes Eric remains the godfather of PI technology. It is a pitty he hasn't put any new uw pi machines on the market ever since.

Christian

I used a Whites PI on the beaches of Florida and pulled out a bunch of stuff. The first rule of detecting is dig all targets. With a PI this is a must almost, but even those using VHF detection many still dig all targets. I now use a Garrett Infinium that has some iron ID, but still it is really dig all targets. Each machine has it's own learning curve, after a hundred hours or so of use you will start to be able to tell wee small differences in the signals.

The people that put pull tabs on the market were not thinking clearly, or just did not give a hoot.

I have one!

Moding the timing to try and find some gold.

Started out at 50us sample time and got it down to 17.

Need to change the coil to get it down any more.

PI no mater what anyone says will not discriminate.   Eliminate Yes!

With this unit, you can streach out the timing untill a iron bolt will not be seen.

I pulled the timing down so that it can now see a small gold nugget of 1gram at 4"    Cool

you need to be at 10us for correct timing for gold, I really like my Whites TDI fully adjustable and they are not that expensive if you buy them used like I did and mine came with a two year warranty..
