Got my hands on a Grand Master Hunter CX II

I've wanted one of these since they came out in 1990.  I couldn't afford one back then.  The GMH CX II was the last Garrett to have a meter.  (Please corrrect me if I'm wrong on this.)  I found it on Ebay, paid way too much money for it ($350 shipped which is still about half what they sold for new), and then held my breath hoping that it would work when it arrived.  It's not that I don't trust sellers on Ebay when they say something works, it's that I always wonder what their definition of "work" is.  "The needle moves and it makes noises" doesn't do much to reassure me.  When it arrived I unpacked and assembled it.  Then I ran a few air tests to tweak the discrimination settings before heading out back to the target garden.  It gave that beautiful "Belltone" on coins, rejected what I had it set to reject, and generally acted like I expected it to act.  I am happy.  My ACE 250 will not belong to my wife who recently expressed some interest in the hobby.  I'm wondering if anyone else has a CX II and what they think of it.

I agree that Garrett got a little...shall we say "creative"...with their battery setups at times.  The use of 9V batteries always baffled me.  They are more expensive than other batteries and those female connectors are prone to being spread and causing poor contact.  One of the things I'm not is an electronics engineer.  I'm sure there is a very good reason that Garrett chose those batteries for some models.  The situation with the CX II is much better.  It uses 6 C-cell batteries in a removable battery pack. 

I'm more than a little partial to Garrett too.  My first detector was a Garrett BFO way too many years ago.  I've owned other brands since then but always came back to the "green machines" and I swear that I always find more/better stuff with a Garrett.  Then again, I have a friend who says exactly the same thing about White's.  That's what he started with and what he believes in.  I think it really comes down to that...belief.  If I really think that I'll do better with a Garrett's then I probably will and that, in turn, will re-enforce my belief that I do better with a Garrett.
