Since auminesweeper is a certified Aluminum Recovery Technician and a founding member of their group here, you can pretty much take that to the bank (or rather the salvage yard).....with the proviso that if the can is properly crushed and/or oriented perpendicular to the surface, the "longer one way than the other" might not be noticeable  and ditto if the coin is buried at a severe angle.    I'd rather dig 20 aluminum cans than miss one Morgan dollar.

Next time you find these cans take a few differant types home with and listen how corrosion has an effect , put them 12" apart and some coins of differant sizes and listen to the sounds and even when your out detecting Take 5 minates when out the finds are low and that will tune you ear to you're machine, because that coil is an extention of your ear. WHAT it hears you hear .

I will give that try.
Hopefully the more i use the machine the more i will get to know the differences between the signals. I always dig the signals because i hate to think that i missed a really special find.
Just out of curiosity and seeing that it was mentioned, do people recycle the cans or aluminum scrap. the reason im asking is that it seems there is loads of it out where i dig

The smart ones do.......and where I live, there is so much spent brass left over from hunters that people keep that and recycle it also.   Good junk metal is like clad coins---not very collectible and not very valuable in small quantities, but if you save it up, you can pay for your hobby.

BAs Right I've found a lot of WWII bomb fragments made up of bronze copper and brass, and 303 cases , if you decide to collect this stuff keep it out off the way of the wife they don't take to that kind of stuff being left around the house, or you might come home one day and find ya detector on ebey Grin Grin

Ill keep the stuff in the shed outside. I get enough strange looks from the other half when i bring my finds home. I think she would put me on ebay and keep the dector. There have been a few unexploded bombs turn up on the beach near me. I once thought i dug up a old butterfly bomb, but it turned out to be a round tin lid   Grin

Well I gave My Neighbor all the junk I collected from last Nov till Now he went this morning and cashed it in and got $35 for a couple of 55gal plastic barrels full. so not too bad.

( Before someone ask's why I give it to the Neighbor; they are elderly and on a fixed income and he recycles scrap to make a few extra bucks so I help out whenever I can. )
