I was wondering if anyone knows if the coiled-cord from the detector to the batterypack is just a typical phone cord? It appears to be, but I wanted to know ahead of time as this is getting stretched pretty good at times, and if it breaks, I want to be ready for minimal downtime.
Thanks in advance if you know.

Rich

Might I suggest you test it by plugging one end into a phone and the other end into the wall? Phones are cheaper than detectors.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hello Capnrich . I think the wire in question might be a 18 guage stranded wire than your typical 22 or 24 solid gauge phone wire to handle more battery current . I will do some more checking and post what I find later on . Regards........Eugene

Thankyou both, I will try the phone idea this weekend, it certainly looks like phone connections(at least the end I can see at the battery-pack.) I'll be interested in what you fnd out Eugene. I haven't contacted Garrett yet, I figured I'd ask around here first.

Hello again . This might be a inexpensive option , very flexible copper shielded wire for a guitar to the amplifier . The shield may help block out any noise to the Metal Detectors circuit board . Just an idea , while I was searching for your replacement coil .  Regards......Eugene

i have a gti2500 too but no problems so far.
my recomandation (even if i'm new to detecting i've reed manuals over and over again) is to call garrett service for replacing the cord. the phone cord in not such a good ideea. is not echranated or not shielded and your detector will go crazy Smiley

the cheapest option is not always the best option.

Thanks for the input. I've not needed a new cord yet, just weighing my options.
You are right about not going cheap, it usually doesn't pay!
Happy hunting!

PS, how do you like your GTI2500? I love mine, works great!

I'll be honest with you. 1'st time when I've seen the GTI2500 was love at first sight  Smiley .
on the internet is written manny things about this detector good and bad.
anyway is a professional detector witch never disappointed. is right is heavy if you copare with others detectors, but if you work out and do sports is not like that. for me is OK.
i have the the max pack of the GTI2500 with the two box an 9'' and 12'' coils. never use two boxes though. i was hunting only my backyard.
i hope the wheather will be OK soon and go around the village.
