If you hit a false, they often return the favor by biting you. There's nothing worse than a false bite when it comes to infections. The antidote is worse than the bite so stay away from falses.
All kidding aside, turn down your sensitivity but only if you are sure you are having false signals. I say this because things like small nails, hairpins, sewing needles and tiny earrings can give signals that seem to disappear when you dig them. To find all but the last, sweep a strong magnet over the dirt and see what sticks.
Anyway, turn down the sensitivity one notch at a time until it smooths out.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
