Garrett Master Hunter ADS 3

Go Up Go Down

I have a Garrett Master Hunter ADS 3 and am an avid coin collector i've had my machine about a year now and had several times out with it and wanting to know if i'm using the machine correctly, i've read the manual front and back and understand the concepts it describes and have put them to practice. my frustration is that i know this is an advanced machine and takes time to really get it tuned as a nube, it doesn't have multi-tone descrimination and weather i pass over iron or silver which i carry a 1960 morgan around just to make sure i'm on the right settings. and it give the same readings on the lil meter. i've tried the quick discrimination were i push the lever on the handle if i get a stronger singal its supposed to be something besides iron but i get the same thing for iron and coins the signal gets better. seems like copper or zinc pennys act like iron. any ideas or tips would be helpfull

Thanks homefire, ive got the settings just about fine tuned, i havent dug a single piece of trash. Only iron nails and rails, bunches of pennies jusr waiting for my first silver, cant wait. Ive got my threshold just about silent and hear what seems like the same tone ill have to practice bench test with an iron nail and my morgan.

Air test are not good.

The Nail should make a Double Woop Sound and the Coin a Single sorta Thump sound.

The ADS makes a Special Double Blip Sound on Long objects like pins, Wire and Nails.

Coins make a Almost Thump Sound .

Deep Coins A Soft thump Sound.   Some Coins on Edge can give a Double.

Just like Chas. Garrett would say about this machine... "if it makes a clipped sound like this (boing-blip), well that's junk. Just move on to the next target. If you want to dig it up, well dig it up.

Yeah the tone does not vary much but a coin makes a sweet "boing" sound when you sweep that is equal from both directions.

Be patient. that is a great machine.

Every trip out im getting more confident, just wish i had better hunting grounds, 20 miles north of seattle not much available grounds open to the public to hunt on, but i did get some leads from an old timer who just so happened to get an ace 250 last week.
