Ace 250

Is it me or is the Ace 250 too sensitive at the Beach.
Even reducing sensitivity, i get false signals that are 6 to 8 inches down.
I dig them all, to no avail, and only get water at the bottom

Hi George.  Welcome to THunting.   Lot's of the members use the Ace 250.   One of them should be by soon.  In the meantime, you might want to use the advance search option to search the Forum to see if someone's posted and answer to the same problem before. (I know one of the suggestions you're going to get is to run the cable straight up the lower rod until you get to the upper rod rather than coiling it the whole distance).   Do you use pinpoint mode?

I use the Ace 250 a lot on the beach, i will get a deep signal sometimes and can't dig deep enough to get it but it doesn't happen two often, i usually lower sensitivity a notch or two. I have found many coins in wet sand and even in water. Reset the 250 helps some of the time. do this by holding the start button down for two beeps. Running the coil cord straight up the shaft for about a foot then coil from there helped my unit tremendously, so if you haven't done this yet try it to see if this makes a difference. Good luck and let us know if this helped.

Don't tell anyone else about this. Some folk here believe the Ace250 is terrible on wet sand.

I just can't think of what they are doing wrong, i have even dropped a dime in shallow water and submerged the coil over it and it read perfectly, no going crazy and jumping from one indicator to another just solid coin sound and in the coin mode.

Well indeed I do !

The ACE 250 is terrible on wet sand. As are all entry level motion single frequency beginners detectors, including my BH Lonestar and my Compadre !

You don't drive a desert rally with a Smart.

The detector IS FALSING on the wet sand, that's what happening according the description given by the author of this thread..

All other US, french, british forums mention the ACE isn't made for wet sand hunting and falsing problems.I experienced it myself last summer, testing three cheapos on the wet.

But yes, even an Email from Garrett didn't convince here, so please keep hunting the wet sand with your ACE ! My pleasure ! (and my finds !)

HH

It's not what they're doing wrong at all. They won't even try the technique you discovered which I broadcast here months ago. They believe what they want to believe rather than try to understand what the machine actually does. Your benefit. Their loss. Keep on enjoying yourself while the naysayers sell their Ace250s.
