Go Up Go Down

So I emailed Garrett about a couple parts I need for it,  but I used it today for the first time... Never had a water detector till now,  and boy is it work! Can't swing as fast as I normally do because of the water drag.... Ugh.. My arm isn't used to the resistance so once again swinging is making muscle.  Lololol

One thing I noticed,  when a wave goes over me,  it 'hears'  the wave and sounds off.
I turn the 'disc'  to 1.5 ish and it goes away. But I would like to run without any discrimination at all... Since a PI really doesn't have discrimination.... Is this normal?

My first run with it found me a hook.. Two hair pins... And two pocket spills of five dimes each.

Oh,  are they called pocket spills in the water?  Or low spots?  Lol. The dimes were all in a cluster together.

Since a PI really doesn't have discrimination...

As you have already noticed, PI does indeed have discrimination and it works. Most machines don't include it because the functionality of PI requires that it detect all metals in a relatively equal fashion. Note that I said relatively. The discrimination is for those times when the soil condition is too variable within too small an area. Just like what can happen when a wave swirls the sand beneath your coil. You won't be able to tell the difference in a target but the discrimination helps restore an equilibrium to your background. Thus, it helps but does not hurt. If you don't need it, leave it off. In the Garrett Sea Hunter PI, they call it discrimination rather than ground balance because it truly does notch out returns like discrimination does. However, it's just not accurate enough to use for rejecting pop tops, for example.

As to the coil swing, the drag can help you keep your speed down - something too many people seem to overlook. I've seen people out there on the beaches starting out with a slow, steady sweep and as time and patience wear on, the swing looks more useful for cutting tall weeds than for detecting. When you get the chance, go behind one of those people and see what they miss. I found a set of Mercedes keys once that had 50 (yes, 50!) door keys on a long chain. It was missed by a fast swinging guy and I just cannot imagine how. It sounded like a buried manhole cover to me. Anyway, I called the first Mercedes dealer in the on line yellow pages using my Android phone to see if they could help me find the owner of the keys. The person on the phone was suddenly excited because their customer had just come in to see about a replacement. Mercedes has a 6 button remote option, which this key had, that has a price tag of $397.00. They asked me where I was and I gave them directions and my cell number.

An hour later, the owner of the keys walked up to me on the beach and we chatted after I gave him his keys. He said he was so very grateful that I had found the keys because each of those 50 keys on the long chain opened doors in his office building. The remote opened his front gate in a gated community and another button opened his garage door. Another disabled or enabled his security system at home. Yikes!

I insisted that I take 4 crisp, new $100.00 bills from him. He said that in addition to replacing the key to his car, he would have to have changed all of the locks on his building. His bill, he estimated, would be over $2,000.00 for losing his keys.

How did he get home without his keys the day before? He called his wife. She was of good humor but still teased him about losing the keys. I made a lifelong friend of a CEO that day. Yes, we got along so famously that we decided to occasionally have lunch or dinner with our wives. He lives in Perth, in Australia, and I now live in Connecticut. We still keep in touch and next March, he plans to come over for a week or so to visit. You can make some excellent friends in this hobby.

Okay awesome.so I'll think as disc as ground or area balance.

I've noticed that when carrying my scoop, that it senses the scoop just barely, so I have to hold my scoop on my back.lol.that's how on the edge I have my settings set.

I just want sure about the waves

Same here. The machine is quite sensitive and will react to the scoop.

In a pinch, almost any hobby shop that sells radio control equipment has nylon screws - even washers and wing nuts. Even Home Depot has them but I've never seen nylon wing nuts at the Home Depot.

I'm only missing one, and one is bent, so I wanted to just replace both.

I don't like the control box on top of the handle.I like the balance when it's under.

I did find my sweet spot on the machine though.

I run on threshold of 4 and zero disc in discreet mode.Just enough to hear a hum in the headphones.

Then when I hear any disturbance,I switch to standard and leave the threshold where it's at.And that finds my item
