New or used, what Garrett detectors stand out in the $150.00 to $300.00 range?

This...

The Ace 250 is a fine machine, and will serve you well.
You should be able to pick up a near new used one for 175.00 or so..

I would also look at the White's Coinmaster, it has performance on par or better (better in my opinion) than the Ace but is less money and is more solid (also, in my opinion)

The Ace 250 does seem to be a popular machine.

The Ace 250 is a good machine.  As noted, you can get a new one for less than $250.  I saw a used one in new condition go for $130 the other day.  You can also find older machines in your price range if you don't feel you really need the "turn on and go" of modern detectors.
