Go Up Go Down

I have had the AT Pro for 2 days now, I used it for 6 hours on the beach, found plenty of pull tabs (sound like coins) and the iron sound will not help here, but still can use the notch discrimination to avoid the tabs.

I'm using it in pro mode, iron disc 35, sensitivity 6 bars. If I hit a target I will activate the iron sound.

Sometimes I change it to standard mode, iron disc 20, sensitivity 7 bars.
If I hit a target I will change it to pro mode with iron sound to see if it is a bottle cap.

Pro mode does a good job at identifying bottle caps, unless they are buried at more than 3 inches.

In air test I realized that pro mode has a deeper reach.

I don't like the progressive sound in pro mode. It could be a good target deep in the ground but since it sounds so faint you never know, it could easily be a tab or bottle cap again.

I was expecting better depth, it wil get a quarter at 8 inches in dry sand.
Maybe I was expecting too much?

I haven't used it on wet sand much, I moved to dry sand because even if I ground balanced it it kept on falsing.

I haven't found anything but a few modern coins and a sore back, sore legs and sore arms. Interesting hobby, will keep me excersised for sure.

Any comments to improve my new hobby will be welcome.

Thank you.

Only Envy of you and your new machine. Do not pass up the pull-tabs for now. One of them could be a gold ring!

I use the AT Pro and honestly can say I have found it to be a good all round MD. I have been digging relics in Virginia for a while and switched to the AT Pro and hit some of the same tough ground near Culpeper VA that I have already been over. It's Civil War relic hunted hard, as the owner is pretty good about giving permission. Still, I pulled up several bullets, a blacksmith clasp and a nice Union spur. Call it luck, but I think that the Garrett is pretty good in the rough clay.

That said, I also hit the beaches in Wildwood NJ, Virginia Beach VA and Nags Head NC with it over the past three weeks. I will say it took me a while to get myself acquainted with the operation of the unit, but since on the beach I dig just about anything anyway, I found I was pulling up a lot of tabs and other "junk". In fact, my carry out bag was pretty full despite the beaches looking clean during the off season. What I didn't mind was the 14k gold chain and locket, silver men's ring and 34.28 in clad.

You're on the right path, but I would recommend ground balancing manually at about 13 or 15, since it reduced significantly my digging empty holes, or, auto ground balance every 50 feet or so. Since it's a button and a shake, it's not that problematic. I am trying some relic hunting this week in the river. Looking forward to seeing the results in that environment.

Thank you guys for the feedback.

I thought gold would sound at about 90s and the only risk about notch disc the pull tabs would be missing a silver ring.

Thanks again

I found that it was very quiet and surprisingly not being hunted at all. On the heels of the bad storms and wash up tides, I was fortunate in finding a large gold earring (just verified tonight as I believed it to be plated), a necklace that was a very heavy piece of gold with a nice size locket (17 grams total weight) and a multitude of coins. Surprisingly, not all that much iron hits and I am heading back to the beach there this Thursday morning and spending the entire day.

Well give your self some time.
Tell us how is it after 60 hours, or 600 hours.
The machine is talking to you, but i bet  you don’t understand the language

Did a mini marathon today, 7 hours on the beach.

I brought a rock with me. Why? Because my AT Pro detects rocks!!

I will upload a video to youtube later and post the link here. I don't understand, it is an ordinary rock, why would the MD detect it every time??
