I have a question about the Garrett GTI 2500 . My question is for those that have actually used the 2500 , and have also used detectors introduced after the 2500 . Is the 2500 still a detector that can produce coins and jewelry as well is those other models , or is it really an outdated detector ? Your reply would be appreciated..Thanks and happy TH'ing

Xavier ,I appreciate the reply (but) I would hope it can find coins and jewelry. I own seven detectors now that can do that .. What I wanted to know specifically since I never operated the 2500 can it compete with the newer models or did I make a mistake by buying this detector and maybe the money would have been better spent on a detector with newer technology .  Take care . Hope you have some great finds...

The only thing that will be different will be the depth that it will find coins at, other than that I can't see why it could not function just as well as a newer detector, even a BFO can work great to find coins but of course you have to be on the knobs to reset it all the time and there is no discrimination (well not real discrimination that I know of any way) I think that if the price was right it will make a good backup machine or if you want to introduce someone to the hobby and you don't want to lend one of your more expensive detectors (new hunters tend to use the coil as a hammer)

All the best
Xavier

Only you know your abilities and they are the key to finding the loot. Seriously. I've seen guys with the latest Minelab working the beach and complaining they found only a few cents while I have hundreds of coins in my pouch. It become spparent why there is such a difference when I watch them swinging their coils back and forth like they're chopping weeds with a sickle. I come along and slowly cover every inch with double scans. I miss very little. The computer between your headset is worth 10 times the one in your detector. Learn the machine and it will reward you. Guaranteed.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Herb I don't think any detector is out dated you just have to learn their limitations. I know several guys using 10 year old detectors and they are out hunting their partners day in day out. You have to learn what your machine is telling you.

Herb, my single biggest complaint with the higher end older machines is their weight.  Get around that, and I don't see a problem with them as long as you master your machine and don't develop "Newer HAS to be Better Syndrome"

Thank you BA . I use a drop straight down pendulum swing with the heavier detectors to lessen strain on shoulder . Happy hunting.
