Go Up Go Down

I saw a picture of someone with the coil cord tied in a straight line halfway then wrapt to the top.
What is the reason for this?

Cheers
John

Hello, John.

GoldDigger1950 has written the best explanation as to why this is in one of the previous posts here.  I'll see if I can find it for you and post the link, but the long and the short of it from a non-technical person is that it keeps the cable from interfering with the coil and being picked up by it.   It works for other detectors also (I use it with my GTAx's)

Yep!   Not Stressing the Wire coming out of the coil, Bring it strait up and to the shaft.

Up the shaft do the winds up toward the top section.

This stops the Coil wire from moving around and messing with the Coil field.

Leave enough Cable to not stress it but not enough to move around.

In a brief repeat, the coil itself can be sensed by its movement when you swing the coil. Running it straight up for a few inches minimizes its profile to the coil and keeps it from interfering with the coil itself. In a real world, detecting sense, what tying it to the shaft does is give you more depth and far fewer false signals.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I've done it to mine and have to agree with all of the above.  Also, if well secured to the lower rod, may help to avoid snags when swinging under brush and other.
