Detecting hey garrett users, has anyone ever had or ever used an ACE 150?  I've gotten one for christmas and only used it a couple of times, but not having very good luck with the pinpointing of finds.  Either it tells me its a coin and jumps to pulltap or nickel, and I can dig a 6 inch hole or deeper and not find anything?  I have scanned over the holes again after digging them, and no beeping. weird. Any tips for this newbie? thanks all.

Crystal the Ace 150 is a great beginner detector but like all detectors it takes time to learn them. First the meter is only a poor tool at best I suggest you ignore it and only pay attention to the tones. By learning the different tones you will learn to tell the difference between a coin and a pull tub. There is a learning curve and only with practices will you start making finds.
I buy several detectors a year that the owner says are not working right are is a piece of junk only only to find that it was the owner not the detector. Your not going to get rich till you learn your tool practice practice practice

crystal,
i too recieved an ace 150 for xmas.
i have had similar experiences, but
have since followed the instructions
in the owners manual and set up a
test plot with various items at different
depths.  knowing exactly where the test
items are located, then scanning, listening
to the tones given off and where the coil is
located when it sounds off, then doing the
cross scan to get as close a pin point as
possible with the 150.

It's a very good  BASIC detector-take your time (don't rush) learn the sounds, and things will work out fine , the finds will come-learn the detector, some detectors take as much as 100 hours to learn, some just a few mins, depends on the detector and your determination, if it was real simple, everyone would have detectors like they have cellphones-How smart does a person have to be to operate a cellphone??? Crystal,
I got a chance to get out to a park with my 150 the other day.
Lots of pull tabs, 3 newer pennies and...
Silver..
not coins,
but an elephant charm with abalone inlay
and a square silver bead.
also a very cool piece of cast iron.
I'm pretty happy with the little 150,
me, a newbie actually finding things!

Since I had last posted, I had a few days to go out detecting before the snow came about.  I`ve since gotten better at pinpointing, and distinguishing the sounds of the detector.  I have found a 1917 large newfoundland cent, and of course lots of pulltabs and other random metal junk pieces, and some clad pennies.  I`m definitely pleased that I chose this detector,  come on spring, there was so many targets that I had to leave behind because of the frozen ground.  thanks for the responses. Great
