just got a second hand unit.
I already have a treasure ace 100 that's the basic unit, one control.
the 300 has a depth control and a discrimination control plus a LCD display.
 Detecting

So....
any hints or tips from someone who's used one?

Thanks,
JJ

only been out with it a couple of times, not sure i like it.
seems it's all or nothing, it is very insensitive and only starts
picking up signals with the discrimination turned way down or
on all metal.  :-
i've tried it with coins just on the ground and some coins only show
as pull tabs and only then if it's in all metal mode.
i think i bought a dud
 Sad

i guess i bought the only one ever made, no one i've asked anywhere
has ever A. heard of one B. seen one C. used one
so i figure it must be the only one ever made and it didn't work so they
made no more of them.
decision time....does it goes in the trash or do i put it online at $1 reserve and let some
other poor sap get a headache trying to make it do more than make you give
you a sore elbow.
maybe i could cut it up and make divining rods from it? could work better that way....
 Idiot

If you add comments without someone coming along, all of them are added as separate posts. Always been that way. You probably never tried it before.

Calm down now. Go fix yourself a cup of Chamomile tea.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Yep!    Your setting some thing wrong I'm betting.

Do you have the manual?

JJ, does your model have the battery tray that slides in and out?

nope, it's on the rear of the housing, a slide that holds two 9v in the housing.

Go Up Go Down

interesting....
i took the 300 and the 100 out together.
i marked out an area and swept it with the 100 in all metal mode. made sure the area was clean.
then i put two coins in marked spots and swept it again, in all metal mode then again with varying
levels of discrimination. when the setting was just above the rejection threshold (no detection), i dug up and
reburied the coins and swept again. the coins were picked up easily as expected.

I then swept the area with the 300, firts with the recommended initial settings.
Nothing!  the coins were marked so i knew where expect a sound. After a lot of manipulation with
the depth control and discrimination i 'located' the coins.
I found that unless the depth control is at full whack it will not see anything reliably. I did find that the discrimination
setting was just about the same as on the 100 when i was consistently finding the coins.

Conclusion? the 300 works, and if i overlook the flashing indicators on the LCD i can detect pretty much the same as the 100. BUT, if i watch the LCD i see the indicator reacting to the coins at a lower depth setting or a higher discrimination, but i get no audio tone!?! i can't walk sweep and watch the display all at the same time unfortunately, so i will have to run
it in a less discriminating setting and dig everything (which some say should be done anyway).
another interesting thing, i had the headphones on stereo, i usually have it on mono, and discovered that depending on the movement and the target the 'beep' comes from one side or the other but not both. there is no mention of this in the manual, so i'm not sure if it means something.
Anyway, i still need to do more testing and trying before i fully get to grips with it, but i don't think it's as bad as first impressions gave.
