The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a public work relief program for unemployed men, providing vocational training through the performance of useful work related to conservation and development of natural resources in the United States[2] from 1933 to 1942. As part of the New Deal legislation proposed by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR), the CCC was designed to aid relief of the unemployment resulting from the Great Depression while implementing a general natural resource conservation program on federal, state, county and municipal lands in every U.S. state, including the territories of Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Has anyone researched are hunted any of the camps. Don't think there will be a lot of coins but could be a gold mine of relics. I was told two of my uncles  worked at one in Oklahoma so have always had a  passing interest but don't know of any close to the Galveston area.

I actually have a ccc camp right in my back yard (200yards away).  Then it was turned into a migrant workers camp. years ago when my grandpa was alive and when I first got into detecting I asked him about the "ccc boys " and detecting there for money, he said not to worry there wouldn't be any, the boys were flat broke, and what ever cash they had it was sent home.. that site has since been made into a housing development for low income familys..as for relics I did find old bottles spoons forks nothing of much value.

Thanks heathen just wondering if they had been much interest in hunting them. Sure there 's not much chance of finding money.

What about the ones that didn't have anyone to send money to? Any good relics come out of the camps? Was there a camp "store" in these camps?

Nah, I ain't left, son had baseball practice today and while waiting for him to come home from school, I was digging in the dirt. Really need a whole entire excavation crew for this one.

So there's really nothing to speak of at these CCC camps?

Depends, some of the tokens might be valuable and some people do collect CCC memorablia.  Got to remember, though, this was the height of the depression, so there wasn't a lot of cash anywhere.

Seldom I found a listing of these somewhere on the net I will look for the link. Seems like I honed in on one in Bastrop that was used for two different CCC projects. Can't remember why that one caught my eye. Was probably because I thought it was the closest one to us.

Is there somewhere to find maps & information about CCC Camp locations? There had to have been some around here at one time. I do know that our Town Hall/Community Center was built by a CCC crew, but I can't tell ya if & where they had a "camp". The Manzano mountains here in NM are a bit far (about 35 miles) from Estancia but then who knows? Maybe they sent a crew to build this particular building as a CCC project.

Hmmm.. will have to check now.
