 Detecting

McIntosh New Mexico, once a bustling community on a railroad(The New Mexico Central & The Santa Fe with it's own stop, is quoted as having "The Longest Main Street in the USA" having 2 hotels, bank, school, RR Depot, and much more is now down to just a Post Office and scattered rural houses. Not much remains to be seen or found of the structures having been dismantled many many years ago for other uses. Even old main street itself is gone due to a flood washout many years ago.

So does that qualify as a "ghosttown"

Cool area to hunt wouldn't ya think?

Goes to show you I didn't know anywhere near as much about New Mexico as I thought I did.   I've spent a good part of my long life either living in Albuquerque or traipsing back and forth between San Antonio and Albuquerque or Amarillo and Albuquerque, or Lubbock and Albuquerque and I still had to look McIntosh up (despite driving through both Moriarty and Estancia frequently).   Heck I even recognize Witt, but I can't say I ever remember McIntosh.   So in my book, you qualify just as much as Yeso and more than Madrid and Cerrillos.

Sounds like there should be a lot of fun and interesting places to hunt there. Yes I'd say it qualifies as a ghost town  Smiley I love the small towns, so many more places to look and more often people don't get in your face about looking.

Hello all

Interesting site McIntosh Sounds like a good and quiet place to swing a detector. You will never know what relics you will find.

Your right about it being quiet here! It will also be a good site once we "prep" the ground so to speak. By that I mean, run a brush hog over the land to clear it a bit, then mow it to get to a clean ground level THEN it'll be ready for some serious detecting.

WHEW! All that just to "dig in the dirt"

Volunteer Detecting needed:

No Experience necessary, no pay, long hard hours of digging, no lunch, tired bones & joints, no retirement or 401K

Rewards: Lots of pulltabs, occasional coins & relics, a good used battery collection & bragging rights about finding somebody's trash and calling it treasure.

Apply within!
