15 miles from us there is a Japaneses relocation interment camp where about 2000 Japanese were kept during the war keep thinking of that for MD ing but I think it maybe on a national registry of some sort, also there is a camp they kept Italian prisoners don't think those boys would have any money on them though anything like that around you?

I do not know for certain how much money would have been carried by a POW during WW II, but I would assume they were given small jobs around the camp for a chance to earn a few bucks they could spend at the PX.  I remember hearing from black veterans of that conflict being stationed in and around POW camps how the POWs were allowed to enter the PX and shop, they, the black soldiers, were not.   Cry   That being said, I doubt POWs were paid off with regular US currency.   Most likely they were issued military scrip that would be honored at the post exchange and not much else.

I heard or read about small caches of money and jewelry found in some of the barracks I really know little about them. Heres a link with some basic info.

Phoenix had a German POW camp out by where the zoo is now.  It's off limit, though.   Which is too bad--not only would there have been memorabilia, but up until a bunch of the prisoners tried to escape, they occasionally got "hired out" to the locals.    I've got another place I drive by everyday on my way to work that was a primary training school for pilots.   It's now an international business school.   I really ought to see about getting permission to at least hunt out by the old runway even if I don't get to hunt by the buildings and the old hangar (now a gym).
