I hate to be the one to break this to you, mate, but that's mostly what any Magnetometer will find. Only magnetic material will cause a deviation in the earth's magnetic field so you can sense the deviation. You're probably unaware of the fact that it will find non ferrous materials that are magnetic such as nickel. Those materials are so rare in nature that you would have little chance of finding them.

A Magnetometer will also be affected by a running engine (this is why it is towed far behind a boat or plane), a stereo playing or any transformer. The iPod you are listening to when you do your readings will give you an error.

I'm not a fan of OKMs LRLs but some of their equipment is top notch scientific instrumentation. You just have to be well informed to sort them out and pick out equipment that does what it says it will.

It's all about that magical moment of discovery when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

i have many experiences with okm future 4000. I tested many metals in the ground the ony metal that you see in the screen is iron, perhaps nickel i dont tested but not gold or silver or lead.I dont now if it is a notch scientific instrument but if you pay 30.000$ and you find only iron something its going wrong. Angry

Really? Did you spend that much on a machine of which you knew nothing? What did you think you were buying when the name of it is a magnetometer? I suspect you are trying to wipe your bad judgment off onto the manufacturer. Picking on the magnetometer is wrong. It detects magnetic anomalies. OKM makes some other equipment that is dodgy but the magnetometer is not one of them.
