The easy way is to use a mineralization meter. But that's impossible since they don't exist. Well, not exactly. You have one between your headset.
What I do is scan a large area really quickly in the all metal mode, highest sensitivity. You're going to hear beeps from metal but for once, you have to ignore them. Since all detectors these days have a background drone or buzz, listen for variations in that. It's not as rare as you might believe but you may find you nave no mineralization. It happens around half the time in areas that I hunt. If you do, you will hear your background hum warble and then it's time to find a spot clear of metal to set up your mineralization settings.
