We were at an auction here in Okinawa and they were auctioning off mongolian silver items. Does anyone know anything about it? I tried to search the internet but most of my searches resulted in mongolian BBQ or mongolian coins. Not much out there on silver content or price. Thanks

Armorer

Armorer,  I think the Mongolian silver reference has to do with the decorative style and craftsmanship rather than the actual silver content.   I think the silver content will vary based on the age and quality of the piece----much like talking about Navajo or Pueblo Silver here in the United States.   Modern Navajo and Pueblo Silver is almost always sterling, but older jewelry was generally made from whatever coins or pieces of silver scrap the jeweler could get, so the actual silver content tended to be lower.

How does this Navajo or Pueblo Silver looks like? Can you have some pictures of jewellery made of it?

Mongolian silver like Tibetan silver is nickle silver no real worth as scrap.

Navajo or Pueblo Silver refers to silver jewelry made by native Americans like BA said up until the 1960's they used what ever they could get their hands on mostly US silver coins.

Google Navajo or Pueblo Silver, lots of pictures.
