Go Up Go Down

The other day while going thru a bunch of websites etc.
I saw a pic of someone wearing either a Jacket or Vest .
That had a Sew On Badge ,(like a Police Badge)

It looked like it had a state seal (California I think)

then the words  "Metal Detectorist" on it , thought that was kinda Cool
and it would keep some of the unwanted people away as who knows what they would think of the badge , But my question is :

# 1 - Is it Legal ??

# 2 - Where would u get something like this made at ??

and now for the life of me I can't find that web site again. I forgot to bookmark it , and i have searched and cant find it . So if anyone runs across it could u please post the link for me.

Thanks!!

It's certainly not illegal, Karl. Badges have no magical quality or legal importance unless you misrepresent yourself as being law enforcement. I wear a bright fluorescent yellow vest and hardhat when I hunt. People avoid me like I had swine flu. It just looks like I am there for some official reason and they leave me quite alone.

Thanks GD , I talked with a friend about it , det, on local force, here is what he said.

as long as it is not marked for Police or any offical entity , it would be legal. he said however u can not use the state seal or any state or federal markings on it.

So the guy in california would be illegal  but the one i posted would be ok.

I just thought it was cool , not going to get one but was just intereseted in the legality of it. etc.

(Man i sure do miss Spell Check LOL)

That's assuming that the guy in California did not detect for the police or state in an official capacity.   If he did and if he was at the time, then the jacket would let people know that he was there in an official capacity helping with the investigative work.

U know i did not even think of that , now that would make sense as to why he had the state seal etc, on it.
Thanks BA !!

Never thought about that BA but the last time I was asked by the police to help them find something They made me wear a safety vest with the PD insignia on it while hunting

Yep, and that way all the cops (including the ones doing crowd control) knew you were supposed to be there and weren't just messing up the crime scene.....same principle with the jacket.  Which means the guy probably does it regularly for them.
