And I actually meant between 5'5" and 6' 0".   It is the rare person of the period who would have been over 6' unless on horseback and it's unlikely (but possible) that a mark as detailed as this one apparently is would have been carved while sitting on the back of a horse.

I am 6'1'' where it is at on the tree it you would need about at lest 3 or 4 people my my sized just to reach it

Ty I will sure keep a open eye out and look more close to the surrounding also close to the tree I say about 9 feet is a old spring feed creek behind the tree is small hill side to
I going to look for more clues if the weather is nice tomorrow

The kind of tree matters to as does how quickly the species grows in your area.   18 ft worth of growth for a live oak is different than 18 ft worth of growth for an alder, pine, walnut, pecan, etc.

this eye is in Camden tn on my mom land the tree is across the creek on her land she only about 5 or 6 miles from the river
this tree has a lot of knots on it to

Back in my high school  days I use to run shine thru camden.

back in the day folks would   paint knots in trees to look like eyes.

believed  to  help  ward off  evil spirits  etc.

never heard  of  one being carved into  a  tree though.
