Sure would like to see some more detailed close up shots.....that shot of the whole rock is VERY interesting, but unfortunately individual details are lost in the greater mass.

That sure is an intricate and detailed rock.  Are there more around it, it looks as if it is part of a much larger whole.  Very interesting!  Like BA I would like to see more close up details.  Is it located in Algeria?                  Detecting

ArfieBoy asked the question I was wondering as well -- is this in Algeria?  I didn't see an answer to this.  We have had posts from Algeria before concerning carvings in rock.  Algeria has a significant number of such carvings.  From what I read, much of it is more like art as opposed to being a map.  Some of the symbols on your rock are repeated a number of times are are also seen on other rock art in Algeria.   Here's a link you might find interesting on one region near the Libya and Niger borders:

.  You will recognize some of your symbols at that link.  Apparently there has been a long history of documenting these carvings and rock art, so you may want to do some additional research to see if this has already been discovered and studied.  If it is a popular site, you'll even find it in stock photo sites, like

If you're serious about finding out more on this, contact SARA (Sahara Archaelogical Research Association).  They have ongoing research on rock art/carvings in that region.  Their website is
