Never used one just for Detecting but I have  a Old Magellan I use sometimes Prospecting.

Paid a Pile for that old thing.

You can get a Better one for 1/4th of what I paid years ago.

Garmin makes a series of handhelds that are for hiking or mountaneering. You can mark the coordinates with a button click and trace your path back to the origin. Then you can download the trip and overlay it on Google Maps. Terrific devices. Read their literature on their website and decide which is best for you.

They are great devises and quite accurate too. You should have a look on Ebay

Good question?

I've never used it, but understand the positioning science and its importance, especially in this hobby.

Cheers, I'm lost in New York- Grin

I'm using a Garmin GPS-76, It's has a nice big screen and I can Zoom the screen from 500 miles right down to 20 feet and I can have about 10 or 12 lots of info on the screen at once if i want but usually i have 1-3 and if im looking for a particular spot the the screen just the crumb trail showing me which way to go, and also I can change the text size which is great for these tired eye's. and the screen is bigger than most too,

Sometimes, when wandering around in remote places with Colonial or Revolutionary War history, one can get way off the beaten path. I find my Garmin can return me on my exact path to where I entered the wilderness. A fantastic tool and safety device.

Your right GD!
 Great

I'm right in the middle of the Colonial & Revolutionary war area in upstate New York, situated near Johnstown NY, Herkimer NY, and Saratoga NY, ext...

I could use a Carmin GPS device this coming season for sure, so I've got to study up on them ahead of time...

Hey, it's down right Cold up here, so would somebody please give me the coordinates for Maui Hawaii?
I need a vacation somewhere warm...
 Grin

Cheers-
