What about the totem poles, Tabdog?
Are you saying there might be something hidden inside or under or maybe it's pointing to a hidden cache? Huh?

HH,

Ken

Don't worry, TD. I got the joke and will never look at a totem pole the same way again. In fact, I'm going to stop climbing mine any more. It smiled when I did that and thanks to you, I know why now.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hobbyist, You can detect the rock on your Nokta, How do you know in your detection that the object is rock, becoz I always encountered in my Nokta when my men dig the target I found that the target is rock with iron oxide. I used always the radar not the digital gauge. Please give me an advice. Thank you.

Kumusta, Vourvon.

I gladly share what I know. Firstly, the Nokta does not directly detect rock; it senses changes in mineralization. Therefore if the rock in the soil has no appreciable amounts of metals in it, the Nokta will detect it as a cavity, and it will show as a blue cavity on the screen. When you encounter such a cavity, you may wish to scan very slowly, in 2 or 3 foot boxes, so as to build up a "picture" of the object and its' immediate surrounds. DO NOT HURRY and you will get a better idea of the target.

Please be extra-careful when you detect an alloy in a cavity. Detected alloys make me nervous because it may be unexploded ordnance. Once you have built up a picture of the target and the immediate surroundings, dig in at a diagonal angle. Never dig in directly from the top! Better still, get yourself an excavator with fortified cabin. It is much better to sacrifice the excavator bucket and some hydraulic hosing than to be blown up. In extreme cases, a compacted earth mound is built-up between excavator chassis and the target, and the operator views the digging via a sacrificial video camera.

I never use the "sonar" screen, and rely totally on the gauges. So far, so good!

tabdog;

Totem (toteem) is an Algonkian word which means friend.... if your totem is the raven, he is your friend and protector, hence all the friends on the totem pole, which are the ancestral friends/protectors. It is not phallic, just a similar format.

Goldigger1950; remember "crook-back dick" of UK history.... he had to walk in circles then.

Yes, of course you are right.

I should be more respectful.

I have to say that I act out
of ignorance sometimes.
