Thanks Thorin don't find any half or quartered coins in Texas unless a lawnmower got them. I have to ask what is the value of these coins compared to whole ones?

these coins are not very valuable probably you might get about ?10 - ?20 pounds for them each sometimes if rare the value can go up considerably ,, cut coins vary in value a bigger factor is quality of the coin

Bit's!

They cut silver coins (peaces of eight) to make change.

Someone on another forum just found 1/8 and there trying to figure out what it was.

Do you know what it is?

In the photo, you see 4 bits    (Half Coin) and 2 bits  (Quarter Coin) .

8 bits to the Dollar.

6 bits would be 75 cents.

2 bits would be quarter.

1 bit would be equal to 12 and 1/2 cents.

Enough back then for Dinner, Lunch and a pare of pants.

prior to having proper half pennies and farthings our monyers used to cut our pennies up to make these denominations ,, they obviously realised the need for smaller currency
