Today while hunting an old 1925 school I found an 1899 Barber Dime and a 1893 Indian Head penny. I am so stoked right now. I will take pics and clean them up and put here for you all. There is like no one around me that metal detects so this may be just the spot to find Jimmy Hoffa (LOL). But if I am finding coins this old there should be a lot of silver there for me to locate I would think. There is this one guy in town that claims to hunt and have the best gear of anyone but the last time I saw him he had a Quick Draw Bounty Hunter. Oh well I just love how people have found that same item before and have hunted a place out and tell you its no good! (Ya right if they tell me it is no good I am sure to go there if have permission. Keep your coils to the ground and good hunting to everyone. Jeremy in Wisconsin.

Imagine how much of a loss that was to some poor student of that time. If the school was built in 1925, it was most likely still in use during the depression following the financial crash in 1929.

You should try and find the owner and give it back.

Just kidding. Great finds! I'd be stoked too and I've been doing this a long time!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Two great pre-1900 finds. Just one would make a great day for me but with both you can't go wrong especially since it was "hunted out" as they say. Congrats on the finds and I'm sure you will get many more the next time. We have two 1800's schools but I have only hunted by one that was torn down and another school put in its place. I have only found clad there so far cause I think they moved around alot of the soil but I keep trying the other is a schoold dist. office and no response from them about hunting it...WArren

meteorite608, Good finds make a day's hunting worth it. And those are spectacular finds. I wish I was up where you are. It is so hot here I didn't go out today. Wednesday I'll dress up like an arab and go out again.

Did you find these with the F-5? I have a 75 and it is a coin magnet. The only problem is it cannot distinguish nickels. A beaver tail pop top will fool it every time. I've tried it on every mode and its the same. The ACE that I used for a year would distinguish nickels very well and would only pick up a broken beaver tails as a nickel once in a while. You could usually distinguish it by signal strength. If I'm coin hunting I notch nickels out.

Sorry for the late responce guys. I am taking pics of them on Thursday hopefully so I can get them up for all you to see. Yes I was using the F5 what a great machine this is turning out to be. My next one will be an E-Trac. This hobby is so cool to me to be able to find something that someone dropped all those years ago. Yes you are also right that was alot of money back then and this one I think I will keep because everyone has lost a 1899 Barber Dime and a 1893 Indian Head I think and that is alot of hands being stuck out all at once(LOL). Oh well been very nice here in Wisconsin mid 70's with some rain but that makes for easy digging right? Well should try to get some sleep big day on Thursday tell you all about it if it turns out good. Keep them coils to the ground and happy hunting, Jeremy in Wisconsin. Grin
