Go Up Go Down

What once was a fairly cheap hobby has turned in to a expensive hobby.
With gas prices being what they are I now have to spend 10 to 20 bucks
to go out and have some fun.
I am in the rural area so their is no walking over to the park for a hour or so
for some fun....Nope,have to get into the truck and drive everywhere I go.

Is anybody else cutting back on their MD time do to the price of gas ?
I use to hope to find enough $ to pay for the gas and every once in a while
find enough to get some batteries.Unless gas prices come down it appears those
free hunts are over. Undecided Undecided

V-B , gas prices don't stop me, MD ur yard each time I do esp after a rain I find something new.

also try the edges of your road just for a walk and u will be amazed at all the stuff you will find on the edge of your road.

Drainage ditches are good places to look also. put an ad on craigslist in the wanted section , and ask folks for places to hunt , u would be surprised how many will reply.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Just got to find more silver (and a wee bit of gold wouldn't be bad either).   With current spots on those, you've got your increased gas costs covered.

BA
(and don't you wish it were just that easy  Wink )

Haven't cut back yet on my MD but when my gas bill is a extra $50 to $80 a week my wife
starts giving me those scary looks  Shocked You know the kind where they don't have to say
anything and you have a very good understanding what they have just told you without
even saying a word.
Your right BA,gonna have to find some gold or start hiding from my wife.I would rather find the
gold if you no what I mean......

Man I would be looking for old homes by your house and farm land. Gas is gas and always will be high. I live in the country as well and would rather hunt the hills than a town or city park. Walk them roads bud and hope you find something good let us know. Keep your coil to the ground.

V-burgh, High gas prices have made me reconsider some of the long trips I had planned to detector. Ones in the 100 mile range. Now I'm looking harder at some of the closer sites I have identified in the past and local ones I've overlooked. The ideal site to me is the one where the treasure is...Nope the ideal site is the old house place in the country that was occupied and abandoned before clad money came out. I use a land map from 1953 and topo from 1945. I also detect on newly purchased right of way property belonging to the county. This is often along major highways.  In this county roads are planned years in advanced and the county starts buying property as soon as plans are approved. Go to your county road planning commision and ask for the plan for the county. It will show swaths of land that have been or will be purchased and the buildings will be torn down very shortly after the purchase. In the past when the secondary roads were paved the entrance to driveways were paved at every house. The houses have long been torn down and the driveways indicate where they may have been.  I'm now waiting for a road to cut through the edge of a ghost town which is now all private land.

I work 50 hours a week and MD is my relaxation. I don't care how expensive gas gets I will still go somewhere and look. Like a few others have mentioned check your yard and check with neighbors. Luckilly I have 8 parks and ball fields as well as a fairgrounds so all is within 2 miles but I still drive everywhere else hoping to find something neat. I have a house from the 1830's that I am wanting to MD and will drive 65 miles to get there. My wife likes to tan and do her nails so this is my relaxation and I'll ride a bike there if it gets too bad Wink...
