Just reading a book called "The Battle that Stopped Rome"
Tells how about 20,000 Roman soldiers were wiped out by the Germanic Tribes in 9AD...Happened in "Teutoburg Forest" The site has been found.
Lots of stuff being dug up...coins, weapons, Roman sandles ect.
The Battle area is about 4X5 miles wide..only a small area is being dug. Must be stuff everwhere.
It is near Kalkriese..just north of Osnabruck...the battle was fought in a large depression.
There were very few Roman survivors....man what a place to relic hunt..and the site was found by a British Major metal detecting while looking for Roman coins!!!!

I know of one expert that thinks this is not the correct battle area and that the real battle site is still to be found. The Germans think the spot is accurate though.
