I have been toying with the idea of buying some cordless earphones like those made for portable MP3 players, Ipods etc. I wonder if they are compatible with metal detectors? Their transmitter is a high frequency FM, would that cause inteference??

Most commercial types should work well.

I would pay attention to the operating frequency of both the Detector and Head set.

Most Head sets run in the FM range or higher but Harmonics could be a problem.

Blue Tooth has a problem with some detectors!

Running up in the 2 Ghz range switching freaks seem to be the problem.

It spikes the Detector Coil with Erroneous hits on the front end.

Harmonics are funny Beast!   You would think the First and Second would be the ones that hurt.  You will Find it's the Third and Fifth that do the thing.

Homefire, yes I guess that is possible.  Bugar, I went by Radio Shack and they have a set with ear buds for $99.00. I would like to get a set with full ear coverage. I looked on the web but nothing jumped out at me. I'm still looking
rigged up my garrett 250 with wireless headphones. Works great so far. tomorrow I will field test them. These are 900 mhz. tv type I replaced the transmitter's power supply with a 9v battery. The sound is much better and the cost was about $65. I had to go with tv type because I couldn't find a full ear cover type with good consumer reports less than $200.
I field tested my new wireless headphones today and it didn't turnout so good. Battery life 30 min......That means it would cost $4.00 /hr to operate. Back to the drawing board. I guess I will have to buy a cheap set of MP3 type off the internet.

Use the analog one (800 MHz band). They don't interfere with the metal detectors.

I have the radio shack ones and they work great as long as you have a detector that has a volume control.  If not, you can buy an adapter that adds volume control like I did for my Omega.

LaFatLife, where did you get the volume control adapter?. I wired mine with a 1000 ohm resistor in line that solved the problem.  The pair I got was off of Amazon.com they are sylvania brand. work good. I'll never go back to corded phones.

I bought it from Kellyco.  This is what it is: KOSS VC/20 Volume Control for Headphones.  It is under the closeout section and they go for $9.95.

LaFatLife, Cool, good price. They would have solved my problem I'm sure. I'm still not real happy about the audio quality.
