Okay, new to this and I have lots of land in 2 different states,Ihave all the time in the world.Questions i have ,what brand is a good brand of metal detectors,and does a land used detector work for water or really wet sand....I bought a used one to start,found 3 items just in my yard on the lake....found 1995 us quarter,a 6inch piece of copper wire,and a small chunk of copper pipe ....And the other question i have is it better to use the head phones or just watch the gages.....Brian

hey buddy,welcome to the site.headphones=yes,theres alot of signals you'll miss by not using them plus less wear on batteries.brands of 'tectors depends on the person,some guys swear by whites or minelab,garret or whatever really depends on you.land tectors will work on wet sand just don't get your electrics(box)get wet

Cardguy, Bomber has given you good information.    You'll find a lot more if you scan the topics in the Beginners board.   Also, you can do a search for "best detector" using the advanced search function at the top of the page.   Be sure you select "search entire forum".   You'll find a wealth of information regarding how to choose and use metal detectors, including links to reviews by users.

Congratulations on your first finds......as you practice, you'll probably find even more in your own backyard than you already have.
