Does anybody have any experience with rechargable batteries vs. regular AA batteries.  Which is the best ni cad or nickle?

rechargeable batteries are only 1.2 volts as compared with a duracell which is 1.5 volts in order to compensate for the drop in voltage you have to put a bigger battery carrier in and add a few more rechargables else you will never get any real benifits from using rechargables.  It doesnt pay to skimp on batteries with detectors they are designed to work at a set voltage you only get what you pay for in this game.  Here's an example for you the Fisher cz 20 using standard batteries will drain those batteries in a couple of hours however if you use alkalines as recommended you will get much longer and be able to enjoy a good days detecting.  Shocked

Hello, I use both alkaline and NiMh.

Alcaline for what concerns the 9v PP3 batteries thet I use in my Tesoro. They are cheap and will last about 24 hours. The only rechargeable of that kind to be found here are 7,2 volts, and they wo'nt even last three hours.

But as far as AA are concerned, it is true that they are only 1,2v apiece, but their power delivery intensity will last longer. I mean they deliver constant power a longer time, before dropping abruptly. Alkalines power will drop faster in intensity, and slower in discharge. So, when you are using alkalines that last, say, 24 hours, you will get less power than the equivalent NiMhs from about the 12th-15th hour.

HH

I've used those cheap Dollar General bats that cost about a buck apiece in my Tesoros and those things will last for several 2 or three hour hunts before going caput!!! Those simple Tesoro Umaxes--like the Silver Sabre Umax, Golden Umax,The Cibola, or the Conquistador. I just go down to DG and buy a couple cheap bats and they'll last for a couple good hunts. Some store brand bats are manufactured by the big names and renamed and sold to maximize the manufacturer's profit margine. Makes sense to me folks.

Hooray for UMAX!!!
