Hello Mike in2mud , measure first with an ohmeter the RX and TX of each coil you have when you get some spare time and post it here . The higher resistance reading is almost always the receive coil or RX . The lower resistance reading is the transmit or TX coil . And let us know how many pins on your DIN connector plug . Two coils look like they are worth keeping , you can use them for various VLF projects . Great Great

Hi Eugene, I have taken the resistance measurements of the coils that are shown in the photograph in the 1st posting on this topic.

The DIN Plug arrangement is a 5 pin 180 degree and is used on both coils.
(see attachment below).

You will notice that on the 6 ?? coil, the shield ?Pin 2? is s/circuit with ?Pin 5?, could this be correct, if for instance that end of the coil was wired to Ov  on the circuit board.

I am fairly sure that the 6 ?? coil is the Chinese MD one posted by Christian (Reply 1), because I was given that odd shaped handle with it, unfortunately it came without the detector control box.

Thanks for your help
All the best Mike.
