Every once and a while we forget..... Like the metal detector batteries or TV remote and today's batteries (alkaline) don't take much to start leaking acid. I have used baking soda to clean the green, however have found a product that works great. One eats off the corrosion and the other protects and improves conductivity. Check out DeoxIT®/DeoxIT Gold® Spray Twin Pack. Radio Shack sells it. A little pricey at $16 but a little squirt goes a long way.
