Soon after purchasing my detector and my daughter found out she informed me that she has lost an earring 3 years ago during a game of baseball in their backyard. I have tried to grid the area and started searching. One grandson became very interested and started digging as soon as the detector made a sound. We spent a couple of hours that day until dark without success. Found a lot of rubbish though. Another search will be on fairly soon at the daughter's request. Just got to find that earring!!

This may sound odd, but I've never found something I was looking for.

After 30 years we found my sister-in-laws ring in the gravel drive. She remembered with-in 50 sq. feet of where she claimed to have lost it. Only a few inchs deep but really damaged due to the cars driving over it, but it was found. Just saying....it is possible but most of the time un-likely? Let us know if you find it.

Go Up Go Down

  Hello Tasherlock
I have lost a few things, bolt, socket just over the past year. Not counting searches that I  have did for a couple of neighborhood people, lost gold plated ring, small silver lady watch.
So far all the item that I searched for I have found, but these item were all lost within a day or two before my search and it was known in general where they were lost at.
They were all on the surface just covered by grass and weeds.I did find a few scraps very shallow but I did find them and it was not very hard at all.
If these items were lost for several years and we had no clue of the location where it was last thought to be then I could still be hunting for them and may have never found them..
To me the key of finding something lost is to get to hunting for it as quickly as possible and having at least a general location of a search plot.

After 3 years on the ground it's going to be a challenge for you to find that earring, but it can be done.Yep like homefire stated search all metal and your going to have to dig all targets if your going to have any luck at retrieving that earring.
Also when digging up targets be careful not to damage the find by digging too fast and forceful,if you have any experience with probing a target then this may help you out too and could help in not wrecking your find.I find that my fiberglass probe helps me  to get an idea of at least the size and shape and depth of a target.

Good luck with finding that earring.....  Great
