Hi there,
I haven't chosen my detector yet, but the more I search, the more I get opposites answers...
It seems that most of european websites or mag issues are hosted and published by detectors
brands...so u get many "best ever detectors"...
Please have a look on this "independant" test and tell me what u think about it...
That one says that the bests are:
                                                 Minelab Sovereign
                                                 Tesoro Tejon

Nice Little web-site you posted . The Gold-max is very impressive !! The Minelab S.E. tests were very impressive also , if the website you posted is honest and accurate it would be wise to purchase a Good Condition used Minelab S.E. !!  My second choice would be the Gold-Max . My third choice would be the "Old" Original VLF Tesoro Lobo which runs at 20 khz , if you can find one !! Last choice buy the Newer Tesoro Lobo Supertraq , a 17.5 khz machine is excellent for small Gold.....Air Tests are useless if you live in a Highly Mineralized Soil Region !!............You have choices and you do not have to purchase a brand new unit !! There are great deals on used machines and sometime dealers give a 30 day or longer return warranty . EBay can be expensive so check craigslist.org in your city or Area you live................This is just my opinion , other members are welcome to post here also !!.......Regards....Eugene52

Great advice from Eugene52,  only downside on the minelab is weight factor, =but i am an old  geezer, younger detectorists don't have the problem, the tesoro is much lighter, both are fine machines,, my opinion, I would go thru a dealer and buy with some kind of understanding as satisfaction, and or warranty.

If I were you I would buy one of the following:

Pre-owned Tesoro Lobo Supertraq or pre-owned XP Goldmaxx. Both machines are easy to use and have good depth especially on small items like old coins. The Minelab eTrac is presently the best available machine but also the most expensive an dmost diffi to use.

Best wishes,

Christian

Realize that the Lobo is a gold-specific machine.  Unless you are hunting nuggets, you do not want a Lobo.  Other coin-specific machines are better finding coins, and at a lower price.

Let say I nearly made up my mind...I'm probably going to buy the XP Goldmaxx Power...Am I right?
I didn't see any Pinpoint on it, is it necessary or is the Goldmaxx sharp enough to do without?
Is there several models? (V3 and V4 or more cause I've seen black boxes or blue boxes)
I live nearby the sea...is the coil water resistant?
The question is : is it worth the price...?

The XP Goldmaxx is a great choice. The V4 is the latest version and has been updated so it will produce less false signals. Its coil is fully water proof. The housing is splash proof that is you can use it even if it slighly rains. You won't need a pin pointer. It is very sharp with a little exercise.

Recommended accessories are the biger 11.5'' search coil and wireless headphones (unfortunately expensive).

The Goldmaxx is not to hard to learn and extremly sensitive to small objects such as coins etc. You will have avery good detector to give you joy for years to come!

Regards,

Christian

Hello

IMHO, one must also consider WHAT is to be found, and WHERE.

WHAT should determine the frequency(ies) of the MD you will choose, WHERE sould help making the final choice.

For instance, in this case, if your sites are mostly packed with iron, then go for the Goldmaxx.

If your sites are fairly clean on the iron side, just go for the Minelab.

My two (euro)cents.
