Has anyone seen a scale that places older coins comparative to more modern ones anywhere for where they disc. out?

My main search is for older coins and I've been trying in vain to find anything online about how older coins fit into the scale of readings compared to 20th-century coins.  There are some areas where I can dig everything but much of where I search after 400 years of civilization has a ton of trash, particuarly the bane of detectors, the ubiquitous pulltab.  I have a few older coins I can test with (Morgan , mercury, indian, etc.) but have no idea where things like a half-dime, half-cent, two- or three-cent coins, etc. would disc. out.  coinfacts.com gives the metallic content and weight of coins, so I could probably calculate all this out--and still may--but I'm hoping in the meantime to find something someone else has already assembled.

I'm not sure that such a thing even exists...it's possible that it does though.  I can say that it seems on som e of the machines I have used that the older coins come up in a similar range as some of the modern coins.      Hopefully someone can help you further with this or if you find a resource on the net about it please let us know.

Someone was working on some way to discriminate based on the "halo" effect. I don't see how they could do it but it's worth a try.

After about a year working with my Whites XLT I found I could tell the era of a penny just by the tone quality even though that is very minor differences in tone. You will learn only by experience. Coins do not always lay flat. They could be on edge or anywhere in between and that will effect the number indicated by your machine. It all just takes time.

Black X...........Have any coin collecting friends? While I was getting use to my explorer, and mapping coins on a screen overlay, I borrowed several coins from him to test and plot.

if you're using a programable minelab, simply use the medium sized cursor while inputting your silvers and coppers and mixed (bronz&copp)

this should cover the spectrum Grin
