Hello and welcome to the forum.  Discrimination can be a tricky thing, it's just a matter of knowing your machine and setting it where you are comfortable basically..  Usually...and I should say that this is from personal experience or what I have heard if you set your discrimination high enough to completely filter out pulltabs then you WILL have a very good chance of missing  some  gold be it sizes or types of gold items.  Nickel, White gold and Platinum all fall very close into the range of pulltab if I remember correctly.  If I'm using disc alot of times I will set it just above iron.  Sure I wind up digging some pulltabs this way but I don't ming.  I usually save the pulltabs and give them to people in my area that in turn donate them to the Ronald McDonald house.  I'd much rather dig a few pulltabs than to think i may have missed a lost ring or something of that sort.  After awhile you may even get to the point where you can tell from the signal if it is a pulltab or not.  There are still cases where pulltabs will set you detector off every step or two in some public parks at which time you may want to filter them out so you're not just digging pulltabs with few other good finds.  But alot of it really has to do with your preference of hunting.

As I stated though this is my personal experience or what I've heard and is not necessarily the universal law of discrimination, just a general rule of thumb.

Hope it helps and good luck.

Glad to see the info was useful to you.

Good luck with your finds and if you ever get back there to detect again maybe you can post some of the finds for us to see.

I've detected things in the past where i would go back later and try to find themagain.  Sometimes I could and sometimes I couldn't.  Usually the better I knew the area or the more familiar I was with it the odds of me finding the item that set my detector off were better.

I also like to dig everything that sets it off lots of times.  Sure sometimes it means you dig a fair amount of trash but there have been many rewarding times where the trash had been masking a very good target.

Sometimes you've gotta be willing to put up with digging the trash to find the treasure.
