Water has most likely entered the control box. On newer models, the screws to open them are often hidden under the faceplate. Your need to open it will be determined by the type of water. Salt water? Most definitely. Fresh water? Maybe not.

If it was immersed in salt water, you have to remove the batteries, open it up, dab it dry and flush it out with distilled water. Do NOT turn it on until after you apply 90% Isopropyl Alcohol (available at chemist or pharmacy). After you dab it dry again, use the lowest heat on a hair dryer to dry it out completely. I mean completely. Dry it for an hour more than you think you need to while you watch TV or listen to music. Don't get too close. Keep it about 2 to 3 feet away and just gently dry it out.

If fresh water, you can eliminate the distilled water flush unless the water was very dirty or cloudy. Use the same precautions for drying.

If that fails you, see the manufacturer for help.

Just think about it and it becomes logical.

You want to do two things. 1. Flush out any dirt and corrosive agents from your machine. 2. Flush out any excess water afterwards.

The fresh water bath using distilled water (available and any grocery or department store) is to flush out bad stuff fast before it has a chance to attack the metals inside of your machine. The alcohol (90%) is to mix with any left over water and evaporate it.

The more you discuss it here and delay action, the worse this might get. I suggest you get weaving on it or buy a new detector.

If you take it out side in fresh air, spray it good with Ether. Be careful not good to breath and is very flammable. So no confined spaces

I have use electrical contact spray before that did a good job with no left over deposits. That may help you out. It evaporates very fast and is easy to use as it is in a spray can.

I've been able to save Swamped PI unites before with the Fresh Water And Alcohol bath prescribed by GD.

Salts and most corrosives are water soluble and the alcohol flushes out the remanding water.

Like he said, just a hour difference could mean the machine is toasted or not.

Good machine, easy to operate. Do not think you will be disappointed. Nice and light weight for extended search time. It gets my vote for what is worth.
