Cry  Thank you to all the lovely people that answered my post about falling in water with my metal detector. Tried a few things and I think I'll just have to concede that it has died on me. Thought of burying it some where for an ironic laugh  Wink I'm now going to buy another one. I thought maybe a Garrett 250 Ace. What do you guys think ?  Wise or  Thumbs Down

Ta Caire. xx

I recommend the ACE 250 for coin hunting and general metal detecting. I used one for over a year and found tons of stuff with it. It has an excellent discrimination ability and is easy to use. It's not waterproof though! Sorry. I left mine outside leaning up against our camper in Montana and that night we had a heavy rain. The water ran off the top the camper directly on my ACE. The next day when I took it apart there was water and dirt in every part of the machine. Fortunately the ACE doesn't have a continuously-on feature so there was no electrical damage. I washed the parts off good with DI water and dried them at 125 degrees F for 24 hours and it still works like new. I guess you know now not to turn the machine on if its been wet. That is what kills them. If its on when it falls in the water turn it off as quickly as possible and take the batteries out. Salt water is a little tricky. You have to wash the boards with a detergent and then rinse in DI Water to get the salt off the components and then you may have problems later on. I worked for a flood and fire restoration company and we routinely washed the components of computers in water. In most cases it saved them unless the owner turned them on after they were wet. After Hurricane Andrew hit Miami we did a job in Miami Heights, A 2 story office building full of computers. The windows blew out during the hurricane and all the computers were wet. Fortunately the power went out during the hurricane, unfortunately when it came back on the owner went from room to room and turned on every computer to see if they would work. It was a 100% loss.

I'm not familiar with any other detectors in the price range of the ACE 250  but I would suggest you try to find one that has ground balance and another feature that I like is the static mode of detection such as on the Fisher F75. The static mode is like holding the pinpoint button down on the ace and walking around. It lets you see what's in the ground without the discrimination circuit getting involved. It is a good feature in trashy areas, mineralized soil and if you are looking for weak targets. Waveing

Sorry about your loss JF!   No no!  I like the idea of burying it somewhere.  I would leave a non-degradable note about its demise if I buried it.  Just think of the thrill of the treasure hunter who finds it!!  Just hope it's not you!

Good luck with finding a new detector!                     Detecting

I recommend a Tesoro Tiger Shark. As good as the Garrett and waterproof. Good on both land and in the water. Those summer swimming spots often give up lots of jewelry in the shallow water. Mine paid for itself in two days flat. I'm in the big time "plus column" now.

Renegade7. Nice ride!  I tried to post a message on the other thread where you were talking about it, but my computer decided to play games about then!

My wife bought a 2012 Tri-Glide this winter.  Delivery was right after Christmam.  Weather hasn't cooperated much yet, so she has about 64 miles on it!  I ride a Sportster 1200  which I love.  She hasn't had any of the problems with it like you describe with yours and we are really looking forward to getting out on the road in warm weather!  It's a great ride!
