Go Up Go Down

I was out today at a County park showing my wife how to use the detector. It is Saturday and their was a lot of people in the park. There was a flea market going on , kids were playing on the playground and a base ball game was going on on the baseball field. I drove around to a parking lot on the far side of the park where no one was, no cars were and there were 5 empty soccer fields where I could work with my wife without interfering with the other park goers activities.

After a few minutes, a car pulled up, a man and boy got out with a baseball bat and a bucket of balls. They walked across the field where I was and past us to the next vacant soccer field. The man did not make eye contact with me when he passed although his young son did with an inquisitive look on his face. And rightly so because they stopped and started batting practice about 50 feet from where we were standing. A foul ball could have easily hit us. I'm sure If I had been doing batting practice with my son He would have selected a field further away or risked being hit himself. My wife and I got off the field as soon as the batting started. Had I been out there with my son doing batting practice I would had words with this man but I yielded and got out the way because I know a complaint to the County filed by him or me would brought nothing but grief for the detectorist who go to that park and there are several. ....... What do you think?  Did I handle it right or not? gambol  Cool

I think you handled it perfect.  Taking the high road helps yourself and other detectorists.

You did fine-BUT some people are very inconsiderate of others, I have been treated very shoddy from time to time at city parks, now I mostly do farmland, as some people just grind me down Angry

Bugar, Yea, I can see this might be a problem. When I anounced my new hobby among some friends of mine eyebrows went up. I don't know why. I know my kids came home from college with a bad attitude about anyone that collects arrowheads. Like me!. ........Thank you Professor....I'm glad my tax dollars pay your salary.
