I'm off to bed soon to wake up on Christmas morning refreshed and rested. For the first time in many a year, I have no need for one more detector, pinpointer, digging tool or pouch. I have what I need for every type of hunting I do. My detectors are all nestled into their places, with one having been loaned to the young man next door who uses it on his yard a lot. He's a patient one and he finds relics that make him more and more knowledgeable with each find about the history of his land. I have yet to search my own property - as old as his - for which I have traced ownership back to the 1600s land grants.
My detector and I become one during a good hunt. It's not the machine alone that finds the treasure. The machine alone cannot possibly dig up a coin or even know for certain that a target is a coin. Knowledge of your machine and the marriage of mind and electronics make your detector work.
Late tonight, we are expecting a snowfall and tomorrow will be a very pretty picture of a white Christmas. I'll take the dogs out for a walk while the turkey cooks and makes the house smell so wonderful. As I walk with them, I look for places to which I can return with my detector. Sometimes, one even finds its way into my hands while the dogs paw at and sniff what I unearth. But tomorrow, I believe I will merely take along a camera and hope for some post card like pictures.
And now, off to bed to dream of treasure hunts to come in the spring. I have so many projects in the works that I may have to reincarnate 5 or 6 times. I guess I'd better leave margin notes in pencil for myself. Dreaming is nice if you can direct it. Most often I am simply along for the ride.
Good night all of my friends here. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a most prosperous New Year!

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
