Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 and MPX
« on: March 28, 2011, 12:10:41 am »
Go Up Go Down

I finally got my long awaited 10 inch search coil for my pioneer 505 in the mail from a seller on Amazon called "outdoor Store".  They had the cheapest price and now I know why.  They sent me a coil with the metal screw on connector that is made for the new fishers instead of the push on connector.

After talking to the manufacturer of these Fisher and BH, I contacted the seller with my facts straight.    The sales rep put me on hold for five minutes and then she told me that they only ordered one bulk shipment of the exact same coils from their vendor so this was not an issue of sending me the wrong unit.  This was an issue of their being sold the wrong unit. She argued with me until I simply told her to get their stuff straight and refund my money.

So now that I have ordered the coil from someone else, I still see this "outdoor store" selling the 10 inch BH coil for the lowest price on Amazon and feel that I must warn anyone on this site about their lack of action here.

Maybe they did get their merchandise straight but I doubt it.

What a Hoot! So you sent it back because they upgraded to a better connector?

I'm confused.

Did you miss the point of the post?  They did not upgrade a connector.  They are selling cheap knock offs of fisher coils as BH equip. as per the manufacturer's tech.  That is how they beat out all of the other dealer's prices.

Maybe if the Fisher/ BH tech support guy would have come thru with the pin outs I would have just upgraded the connector on my unit myself but since he was not coming off of the wire up I figured that getting the right coil would make a little more sense and I can upgrade my own connector later.

Maybe you could call back and ask to speak with the owner of the store instead of speaking with the part time help.  They need to know what is going on.  Its gonna be a shame if a bunch of people get the wrong coils.  I only suggest that because you cared enough to warn all of us.  Thanks.  By the way I hate 10 inch coils.

The only real aggravation that I felt was that I missed out on a weekend hunt that I was hoping to make with the bigger coil.  I have recently acquired permission to hunt at the site of an old sugar mill.  The new owner has cleared the property so I won't get a chance to hit it without the grass getting in the way ever again after this month.  I am also pretty sure that they will start building a house there soon so I need to get started on the three plus acres soon or I will miss out.  I'm sure that attitudes will change once they have their grass growing and all.

As for a cover... I never used one but have only been hunting for a year or so.  Am I screwing up my coils that much more quickly without covers?

I am new enough at the hobby to not have an opinion about 10 inch coils in general.  I do have another detector that came with a 10 incher and all I have to do is brush across a blade of grass and the darned thing goes off.  That is pretty much why nobody has seen me post much about my other detector.

I must blame the detector though because it still does it to a lesser degree with it's 8 inch coil.  I only use it when I am with a friend who is using one of my detectors since they would catch hell with it and I have forced myself to become proficient with it.

The info I got on this very board about the differences between the two sizes has really allowed me to plan for what I should encounter.  I honestly see myself making better use of my 4 inch coil in most spots but I suspect that I will be scouting new territories with that big coil until I get a feel of what I am up against in new spots.

Why do you dislike big coils?  Do you hunt in "trashy" areas?  I think that I will have a use for the bigger coils in a few spots that are mainly overgrown trails along the bayous where civil war camps were said to have been made.  Maybe the search coils will allow me to zone in on hot spots while the smaller coils will do the work once I find the spots?

Thanks AU, I have seen some decent package deals on all three of my covers. I know that some dealers want a pretty penny for each one but I should be able to get the trio for a great price these days.  It makes good sense I reckon.
