I dont know your detector.

So found this video for it on line to help explain a air test. Air air test is helpful as it shows what to listen for and that the machine is working correctly. It is a false sense of depth as that changes withe items in the ground.

Here is the manual on how to set up and operate your detector. Very important you learn how to set up and operate your detector properly.

Metal Detector GC Series

·Metal Detector 1018:
Operating Frenquency:6KHz-6.8KHz
Low battery indication:8.8-9.8v (LED lighted)
Minimum operating voltage:8.8v
Target indication: Viewmeter
2'' speaker, 1/4''earphone jack
All Metl mode:
Mximum sensitibvity>=25cm for an US quarter
viewmeter shows intensity
Be able to detect ferrous and non-ferrous metal
Discrimination mode: Maximum sensitivity>=23cm for an US quarter, Auto ground balance,
Viewmeter and audio indicate metal type
8AA batteries required(12V)

Just a guess but the manual says it good for locating nails in wood somewhere. This a Very Low Frequency detector. It has a Discrimination and all metal modes. It has ear plug jacks and a good set of head phones and practice may allow you to identify targets better.

There is no settings on your detector for gold and silver. Just ferrous and non-ferrous metal. You also have several knobs to learn to set, any combination could be wrong. Read the manual.

Start with a basic setting and learn what it is telling you. You will find all sorts of things. Over time you will get better in finding keepers.
