If you could only use ONE digging tool, which one would it be and why? There are so many digging tools, what's your favorite and maybe share your best find you made with it.

I use a large straight slot screwdriver. I mean VERY large. Mine is 13" long. The tip has been blunted to a round, flat spatula shape. he shaft is 3/8" and strong as anything. I can use a hammer if I need to in forcing it into concrete like soil or gently pry a ring or coin from moss. It has served me well now for more than 40 years and I wouldn't be without it.

Once, when traveling, it was confiscated from my checked in baggage at LAX. I complained so loudly that they eventually sent it back. Daily phone calls, letters of demand and several visits removed it from their "weapon display" board inside their security offices. Oh, and they actually pulled me from the plane and interviewed me. Fortunately, it was an arrival flight and I didn't miss anything but dinner. They should have returned it right away but they decided to keep it because they believed they could do so. I despise imperial authority types. And I love taking them down.

That must be a serious piece of equipment! Any chance you could post a pic of it?

I finally went out to the barn and dug it out of my bag. Here is a picture of the entire tool and the tip in close up.

Back in my coin shooting days, when I hunted schools and parks I used a Old Hickory butcher knife. You could cut a deep plug thru grass and hard dirt with little effort. I always kept 3 or 4 sharp ones in the truck, now days its pick and shovel most times or a ice scoop at the beach.

GD for a moment I thought you knock off my best digging tool.
I had to go and check the car. Lucky was still there.
Here are pictures of the tool next to a tape measure and also a close up of the tip.
