Go Up Go Down

Hopefully i am posting in the correct place on this one...

i am in the homebuilding/remodeling business, and we are doing a full remodel of a home, built in the early 1960's

in moving the bathroom plumbing around(it is a concrete slab) we came across several inches of gravel(10-12") under an area that was pretty light on concrete(maybe 2-3" at best) while other areas were normal 4" thickness

it appears that the slab had been re-done in this area a some point.

i have heard that sometimes people will do this sorta thing, and bury a safe, or valuables under the slab and gravel.

has anyone heard of this? if so, do the time frames of the home match up to periods that this may have been done?

just curious if we needed to take a closer look, prior to covering it back up!

thanks!

Sounds like a  repair done in the past but I would probe it, just it case. There were a lot of safes put in slabs in the 60's and 70's but all I have came across are in a bedroom or garage.

thanks for the reply...will be probing for sure, just not real sure if there was a certain 'normal' or average depth for these things...we went a couple of inches into the soil, so about 14" total under the slab, surely it wouldnt be much further, if there at all

thanks again
well, i always appreciate updates, and hearing how things pan out, so i thought i would post my results...

probed around in there today for a little while, going to about 2 1/2' deep from the top of the exposed dirt, making it a total of about 3 1/2'...nice and soft all the way down!

killed the curiosity though!
Thanks
