I am very excited about one of the places I got permission to hunt. I hunted it for about 30 minutes one evening and was pretty discouraged because of the amount of trash. The mowers have never picked up a pop can. They just shredded them. At the time I thought the place was build around 1948 so I didn't put much effort into hunting. I mainly just explored the area to get a game plan of going back at a later time. Well after more research I have found out that it was in operation from around 1870 until 1956. I am sure it has been hunted before but I can't wait to actual put some effort into looking between all the pop can bits. I wish Kellyco would hurry up with my 8X6SEF
Went back to the 1870-1956 place today. I haven't figure out how to hunt it. I dug about ten targets before I had to leave. I didn't bother digging anything that wasn't coming up as a coin. A couple were iffy. The first was a 1977 penny at about 6" to 8". How did that get down there! The rest were all flattened aluminum screw tops. Usually about 75% of a swing is silent with the iron the rest of the swing is just full of foil targets shown at 1" or less depth. I keep seeing posts suggesting to dig it all. I am 32 and I don't think I will live long enough to dig all these targets! Oh I forgot to mention the soil is about the consistency of a Pillsbury cookie dough roll. Even though it is a challenge it is still fun getting outside and rolling around on the ground!
