One thing that I have learn is learning about your detector is the different between success and failer, My wife and I went detecting the other day,  Detecting Me with my new $700+ detector and her with my old (20years) $135 detector, after 30 Min's she had  found more items then I would find after 2 hrs, Violent  Why  Idea because she has been use that detector off and on  for the last 20 years. And me the last 3 hrs. It takes time and many of the people who come to this sport need to take the time to learn their detector (me included). Don't look to get rich, look to have fun, It could be the different between you stay in the hobby, or letting your detector become just a another item in your attic.

Hi. I just wanted to say i went through the same experience with my friend. He has a metal detector that cost less than $100 and mine cost several hundred $ both new. The stuff i find and he finds are just about the same and about the same depth. pull tabs, foil, twist caps, rusty nails and HOORAY! clad coins and Lincoln cents. This was me Huh?  This was my friend Todd Smiley

I see in my manual i have a rather large learning curve to go thru yet with only about three hours in my yard and 5 hrs in the park plus a short time along the edge of the sidewalk and a few places where the sidewalk was replaced. That leaves about 90 hours to go! Also i still have to make up my practics plot. Hopefully by then i will be finding some of the things people lost that they wanted to keep. I am ready to start right now but it is cold and dark.

I used to figure about 32 hours each spring till I am really tuned-in to my detector. That's when the deep goodies start showing up.  Takes a while for the ole winter haze to fade and time to get your hearing and brain in sync. Wink I'm sure some of the old timers here can attest to that.
